    Utilize IDistributedCache for session management in .NET Core. Implement AddSession in ConfigureServices and UseSession in Configure to set up session handling effectively.

    Handling sessions in .NET Core involves several steps:

    1. Configure Session Middleware: Add session middleware in the Startup.cs file. This involves adding session services in the ConfigureServices method and configuring the middleware in the Configure method.

      public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
      {
          services.AddDistributedMemoryCache();
          services.AddSession(options =>
          {
              options.IdleTimeout = TimeSpan.FromMinutes(30);
              options.Cookie.HttpOnly = true;
              options.Cookie.IsEssential = true;
          });
      }

      public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IHostingEnvironment env)
      {
          app.UseSession();
      }
    2. Store and Retrieve Data: Use the HttpContext.Session property to store and retrieve session data.

      // Store data in session
      HttpContext.Session.SetString("Key", "Value");

      // Retrieve data from session
      var value = HttpContext.Session.GetString("Key");

      3. Store and Retrieve Data: Use the HttpContext.Session property to store and retrieve session data.

      4. Session Security: Ensure that session data is secure by using HTTPS and setting appropriate cookie options. Avoid storing sensitive information in sessions.
      5. Session Expiration: Manage session expiration and cleanup to prevent memory leaks and ensure efficient resource usage. Configure session timeout settings based on your application’s requirements.
      6. Distributed Sessions: For applications deployed across multiple servers, use distributed session storage options like Redis or SQL Server to ensure session consistency.

    The Object reference not set to an instance of an object is a common error that developers notice on .NET app or frameworks. Though plenty of causes can result in such errors, we’ll discuss here some major reasons for the occurrence of such types of errors.

    Usually, the error gets displayed when you try to obtain an object that hasn’t been instantiated yet. You have to ensure that your system doesn’t encounter runtime errors or else, it can lead to a data breach. During any such instance, remote hackers can manipulate your data and even stall your server.

    Fixing object reference not set to an instance of an object c# unity (Basics And Introductory Explanation)

    It usually occurs as soon as you get NullReferenceException. When you work on .NET, you have to understand value types and reference types. Value types store the data while reference types don’t hold the data. Under reference types, they hold a specific reference point where object can be stored in memory.

    Know more:

    • Top 100+ .net Framework Interview Questions and Answers

    For example, a web page link can serve as a reference type while Date/Time serve as value types. A variable can be stored under a reference types. When a reference doesn’t go to a specific object, it’s nullreference. Many of .Net App errors emanate from nullreference.

    How to fix system.nullreferenceexception: ‘object reference not set to an instance of an object’.

    This code may generate a nullreferenceexception. But its variable ‘text’ has to be null in it.

    public void MyMethod(string text)

    {

      //Throws exception if text == null

      if (text.ToUpper() == “Hello World”)

      {

           //do something

      }

    }

    You may also get null reference exceptions when any type of object is null. If you haven’t initialized SqlCommand object, it may lead to a serious SQL query error. A null string can be serious in SqlCommand, unless you get it fixed at the earliest.

    SqlCommand command = null;

    //Exception! Object reference not set to an instance of an object

    command.ExecuteNonQuery();

    How to Utilise Null Coalescing to Avoid NullReferenceExceptions?

    You can use the null coalescing feature—?? operator. It comes with a default value for a previously null-valued variable.

    You can utilize null coalescing using this code:

    List<string> values = null;

    foreach (var value in values ?? new List<string>())

    {

        Console.WriteLine(value);

    }

    The errors may originate due to settings, API-type values or database calls.

    Top 3 tips to prevent system.nullreferenceexception: object reference not set to an instance of an object

    • Assign particular values to each variable.
    • If the variable is null, process such codes accordingly.
    • Use [?] operator wherever possible

    In Conclusion:

    The object reference not set to an instance of an object is one of the commonest errors within .NET framework or app. You can use if-conditional statement to understand whether your variable has a specific reference. Such problems occur frequently under .NET framework.

    All reference types within C# come with a null value. However, some data types like int and Boolean don’t have null values if you don’t define them appropriately. You must check all variables before assigning codes to them. You can also ensure that you check if-else statement for null values.

    What is BCL?

    Base Class Library or BCL refers to a subset available within Framework Class Library (FCL). The term class library refers to a collection of reusable items, which are integrated into CLR.

    BCL is important as it helps in simplifying classification of items, which are essential for daily operation. For example, when the system has to work with string and primitive type data, BCL steps in to simplify such a task.

    The appropriate use of BCL is crucial to building software on the .NET framework. BCL facilitates hassle free interaction with the directory and file system on your PC and also communicates with relational databases through ADO.NET.

    Significance of BCL

    BCL works in tandem with the .NET framework and is compatible for use on .NET 3.5 and Net Standard 2.0. Thus it can work with several types of computer programming languages and operating systems as well. BCL works on Linux and Windows OS too.

    How does BCL work?

    BCL mainly works in sync with XPRB and XPRBprob classes. You can get these classes in xprbdn assembly. BCL is usually packed into the NuGet folder or nugget lib of the Xpress directory. Add it to a local directory folder for more benefits.

    In Conclusion:

    BCL works quite differently than other classes. In case of any error, it doesn’t print an error message and nor does it end the program. Usually, it sends the error back to the user-defined sources so that users can check the error correctly.

    In a nutshell, BCL or Base Class Library has the basic and fundamental types of systems like Date, Time, String, System, and others. For most apps, BCL works well offering consistent speed and accuracy.

    What Does CLS Stand For?

    CLS is the short form or abbreviation for the Common Language Specification. It is a fundamental class or set of language features that the Common Language Runtime (CLR) of the .NET Framework supports.

    Learn more:

    • Top 100+ .NET Framework Interview Questions and Answers

    CLS functions as a guide or monitor for library and compiler writers.

    CLS is basically a component or part of the specifications of the .NET Framework created to help and support language constructs mostly applied by programmers to create codes that can be verified. Such an act facilitates all CLS-class compliant languages to guarantee the type safety of code.

    Features of CLS:

    • It has features common to many object-oriented programming languages.
    • It is a subset of the operation of the Common Type System.

    Pros of CLS:

    CLS has several benefits. The main benefits are listed below:

    • It permits flexibility in using non-compliant types in the internal implementation of components with CLS-compliant requirements.
    • It functions as an active tool for integrating different languages into one unit that does not have frills.
    • For libraries CLS is very useful as it permits the libraries to be fully usable in an integrated manner from any language supporting the CLS.

    Cons of CLS

    CLS has certain disadvantages as well as given below:

    • As a particular language specification may not be understood by other programming languages, the CLS sometimes creates some problems. This is primarily due to the reason that the .NET Framework uses many languages like C#, VB.NET and J#. Since these languages follow their own syntactical rules for writing the code, the CLS may not sometimes understand it.
    • Sometimes, CLS poses some problems to the programmer as CLS sets guidelines that must be supported by all languages that target CLR. The problems may crop up if the programme is not complying with such set guidelines of the CLS.

    In Conclusion:

    CLS determines or guides the basic laws that must be followed for any language targeting common language infrastructure to include with other CLS-compliant languages.

    Protected Configuration: Meaning and Explanation

    Protected configuration refers to a technical process through which any data is protected using enhanced layers of security applications. It makes it difficult for any third-party or intruders to get inside your sensitive data and steal the same.

    Using the protected configuration path, you can make it even more difficult for hackers and intruders to go inside your site and get access to your configuration file.

    By sensitive information, we mean user id, email id, connection strings, and encryption codes. Mostly, all sensitive information is stored inside ASP.NET, and using a protected configuration route you can easily encrypt essential details.

    What is its function?

    Using protected configuration you may not be able to encrypt or decipher configprotecteddata folder of your config file. That is why Protected configuration primarily helps in hiding sensitive details from outsiders.

    Managing Protected Configuration

    A website admin should use the ASP.NET IIS registration key (ASPNET_REGIIS.EXE)—executable file to manage the protected configuration of essential files. In order to implement a protected configuration provider, start a class to inherit the Protected Configuration Provider abstract class.

    Types of Protected Configuration offered by .NET:
